A dormant volcano that was formed during a very interesting and important geological period in Central America. Cerro Tortuguero is the highest hill in a vast area that is comprised of totally flat plains. From the Cerro Tortuguero highest viewpoint, you can appreciate the landscape that surrounds the canals, the jungle, and the Caribbean Sea. A beautiful naturalistic walk along paved trails and a stairway that will take you all the way to the top of the hill.

Caño Palma is a narrow canal that runs parallel to the Caribbean coast, just north of the Tortuguero National Park. It’s part of the larger Tortuguero canal system and lies adjacent to the Caño Palma Biological Station, a conservation and research outpost run by the Canadian Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation (COTERC). The area is remote, accessible only by boat, and teeming with wildlife.
